Stromboli

Stromboli is a delicious Italian-American dish that’s similar to a rolled-up pizza, filled with savory ingredients like cheese, meats, and vegetables, then baked into a golden, crispy roll. It's a perfect handheld meal or snack, and you can customize the fillings to your liking!

Here's a simple recipe for Classic Stromboli:

🍞 Classic Stromboli Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 package pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)

  • 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (grated)

  • 1/2 cup Italian sausage (cooked and crumbled) or pepperoni slices (or any meat of choice)

  • 1/2 cup bell pepper (sliced, optional)

  • 1/2 cup onion (sliced, optional)

  • 1/4 cup black olives (sliced, optional)

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

  • Salt and pepper to taste

  • Olive oil for brushing

  • Dried oregano or Italian seasoning (optional for extra flavor)

For the Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce for dipping

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Dough:

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

  • Roll out the pizza dough into a rectangle on a floured surface, about 12 inches in length and 8 inches wide.

2. Assemble the Filling:

  • Sprinkle a thin layer of mozzarella cheese and parmesan cheese across the center of the dough.

  • Add your choice of fillings: Italian sausage, pepperoni, sliced bell peppers, onions, olives, and a sprinkle of garlic powder.

  • Season with a little salt and pepper to taste.

3. Roll the Stromboli:

  • Carefully fold in the sides of the dough to enclose the filling, then roll it up tightly, starting from one end to the other.

  • Pinch the edges to seal the stromboli and tuck the ends underneath to ensure no filling escapes.

4. Prepare for Baking:

  • Transfer the rolled stromboli onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

  • Brush the top of the stromboli with olive oil for a golden, crispy finish.

  • Sprinkle with dried oregano or Italian seasoning for extra flavor if desired.

5. Bake the Stromboli:

  • Bake for about 20–25 minutes or until the dough is golden brown and crispy.

  • If you want a crispier crust, you can bake for an additional 5 minutes.

6. Serve:

  • Let the stromboli cool slightly before slicing into pieces.

  • Serve with pizza sauce or marinara sauce for dipping.

🔄 Variations:

  • Veggie Stromboli: Skip the meat and fill with veggies like mushrooms, spinach, artichokes, or zucchini.

  • Cheese Lovers: Add more cheese options like cheddar, provolone, or ricotta.

  • Spicy Version: Add jalapeños or red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
