The Bible has so many beautiful passages for moments when anxiety makes your heart restless, your thoughts race, or the future feels uncertain. These verses remind us that we can bring our fears to God honestly and find refuge in His presence.

12 Bible verses for anxiety and worry

1. Philippians 4:6–7 — Peace beyond understanding

“Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”

God invites you to bring every worry to Him. His peace can guard your heart and mind even when your circumstances haven't changed.

2. Psalm 23:4 — God is with you

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me.” — KJV

You don't have to walk through frightening seasons alone.

3. Isaiah 41:10 — You are not alone

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee.” — KJV

When you feel overwhelmed, remember that God's promise is His presence and strength.

4. Matthew 6:34 — One day at a time

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.” — KJV

You don't have to solve tomorrow's problems today. Receive today's grace for today's burdens.

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” — KJV

You can tell Jesus exactly what is troubling you. Nothing is too small or too heavy to bring to Him.

6. John 14:27 — The peace of Jesus

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” — KJV

Jesus offers a peace deeper than the temporary reassurance the world can provide.

7. Psalm 46:1–2 — Your refuge and strength

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” — KJV

You can turn to God in the middle of trouble, not only after it has passed.

8. Proverbs 3:5–6 — Trust Him with the unknown

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” — KJV

You may not understand what is happening or know what comes next. You can still seek God's guidance one step at a time.

9. John 10:27–28 — Safe in the Shepherd's hands

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” — KJV

Jesus knows His own. You are not an anonymous face to Him; He calls His sheep into a relationship with Himself.

10. Romans 8:38–39 — Nothing can separate you from God's love

Paul declares that neither death nor life, nor anything else in creation, “shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Anxiety may make you feel distant from God, but the intensity of your feelings does not determine the depth of His love.

11. Psalm 94:19 — Comfort for an anxious mind

“In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.” — KJV

God's Word makes room for the reality of a mind crowded with thoughts. You can seek His comfort even when the thoughts keep coming.

A short prayer for anxiety 🙏

Lord Jesus,

My mind is restless, and my heart is carrying burdens I cannot always explain. You know every fear, every uncertainty, and every thought that keeps returning.

Help me surrender what I cannot control. Teach me to trust You with tomorrow and to receive Your grace today. When I feel overwhelmed, remind me that You are near. Quiet my heart, guide my thoughts, and help me rest in Your love.

I place my worries in Your hands. Stay with me through this moment and lead me in Your peace.

Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.

When anxiety strikes, remember these three verses

  • For racing thoughts: Philippians 4:6–7.

  • For fear of the future: Matthew 6:34.

  • For feeling alone: Isaiah 41:10.

You can also read Psalm 23 slowly, one verse at a time, and pause wherever a phrase speaks to you. Prayer and Scripture can offer spiritual comfort, and seeking practical or professional help for persistent anxiety can be part of caring for yourself, too.
