Kani salad recipe

 Kani salad is a delicious Japanese-inspired crab-stick salad—creamy, crunchy, slightly sweet, and very easy to make. 🥗

🦀 Kani Salad

Serves: 2–3
Prep: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 200 g kani (imitation crab sticks), shredded
  • 1 small cucumber, julienned
  • 1 small carrot, julienned
  • 2–3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Optional: a little Japanese chili powder (shichimi) or sriracha

Instructions

  1. Shred the kani by pulling the crab sticks apart into thin strips.
  2. Prepare the vegetables: Cut cucumber and carrot into thin matchsticks.
  3. Make the dressing: Mix mayonnaise, rice vinegar, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sugar.
  4. Combine: Toss the kani, cucumber, and carrot with the dressing.
  5. Finish: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and a little chili if you like.
  6. Chill for 15–30 minutes before serving.

⭐ Extra-good version

Add avocado and a little mango for a sushi-restaurant-style kani salad. You can also put it over lettuce or serve it alongside sushi rice.
