Soprano
🎵 The soprano ukulele is the classic, small one that gives that bright, happy sound. It’s about 21 inches long, so your fingers can reach the frets easily, and it’s great for beginners.
Here’s a quick beginner-friendly guide:
1. Standard Tuning
Soprano ukuleles are usually tuned G-C-E-A, from top string (closest to your face) to bottom string. Many beginners use reentrant tuning, where the G string is higher than the C string, giving that classic “ukulele jumpy” sound.
2. Easy Starter Chords
-
C major – put your ring finger on the 3rd fret of the bottom string (A).
-
F major – index finger on 1st fret of E string, middle finger on 2nd fret of G string.
-
G major – index finger on 2nd fret of C string, middle finger on 2nd fret of A string, ring finger on 3rd fret of E string.
-
Am (A minor) – middle finger on 2nd fret of G string.
With just C, F, and G, you can play tons of songs!
