Why people are dark, selfish

People can be dark or selfish for many reasons, and most of them don’t start with evil intentions.

Here are a few truths, gently said:

  • Pain often turns inward.
When people are hurt, neglected, or afraid, they learn to protect themselves. Selfishness can be armor, not a personality.

  • Fear makes people small.
Fear of not having enough love, money, attention, or control pushes people to grab instead of give.

  • Brokenness gets passed down.
Many people are acting out what they were taught or what they survived. Hurt people often hurt people—not because they want to, but because they don’t know another way.

  • Freedom without love becomes darkness.
When people choose themselves over truth, humility, or God, the heart slowly hardens. Not all at once—little by little.

From a faith lens:
The Bible doesn’t say people are only dark. It says we are made in God’s image, but wounded. Capable of love—and capable of selfishness.

What’s important (and hard):
👉 Someone else’s darkness doesn’t mean you have to become dark too.
👉 Their selfishness is not a measure of your worth.
👉 You’re allowed to protect your heart without hardening it.
