What to do with a faded shirt full of holes

That shirt doesn’t have to be trash—it depends on what you want from it. Here are smart, realistic options from most practical → most creative 👕✨

1. Turn it into a “home-only” shirt

If it’s soft and comfortable:

  • Sleep shirt

  • Cleaning / painting shirt

  • Hair-dye or cooking shirt
No pressure for it to look good—pure utility.

2. Repair it (only if it’s worth it)

Works best if holes are small and fabric still strong:

  • Visible mending: embroidery stitches, contrasting thread (can look intentional)

  • Iron-on patches on elbows, chest, or back

  • Sashiko-style stitching (simple running stitches)

If it has many holes and very thin fabric → repairs won’t last.

3. Upcycle it ✂️

If it’s beyond wearing:

  • Cut into cleaning rags

  • Make reusable kitchen cloths

  • Turn into a hair wrap or sleep eye mask

  • Cut strips → t-shirt yarn (for tying plants, bags, crafts)

4. Transform it into something new

If you feel a bit creative:

  • Crop it (holes look intentional on cropped tees)

  • Turn it into a tank top

  • Tie-dye or overdye it darker (black/navy hides fading)

  • Distress it fully → make it clearly intentional

5. Let it go (no guilt)

If it’s:

  • Very thin

  • Full of holes

  • Makes you feel sloppy or annoyed

Then it already did its job.
Cut it into rags or recycle textile-wise and move on 🧘‍♀️
