Here’s a straightforward espresso recipe you can make at home, whether you have a machine or a manual setup:


Ingredients

  • Fresh coffee beans (preferably espresso roast)

  • Filtered water


Equipment

  • Espresso machine (or moka pot/ AeroPress for stovetop alternatives)

  • Grinder (burr grinder recommended)

  • Tamper (if using espresso machine)


Instructions (Using Espresso Machine)

  1. Grind your beans:

    • Use about 18–20 grams of coffee for a double shot.

    • Grind fine, like table salt.

  2. Prep the portafilter:

    • Place the coffee grounds in the portafilter.

    • Tamp firmly and evenly to create a smooth, compressed surface.

  3. Brew:

    • Lock the portafilter into the machine.

    • Brew for 25–30 seconds. A double shot should yield about 2 ounces (60 ml) of espresso.

  4. Serve immediately:

    • Pour into a pre-warmed cup and enjoy straight, or use as the base for lattes, cappuccinos, or mochas.


Stovetop Option (Moka Pot)

  1. Fill the bottom chamber with water (up to the valve).

  2. Add finely ground coffee to the filter basket.

  3. Screw the top on and place on medium heat.

  4. Wait for the coffee to bubble into the top chamber (~5 minutes).

  5. Pour and enjoy a strong espresso-like coffee.
