Onion jam is a sweet, savory, and deeply flavorful condiment made by slow-cooking onions with sugar, vinegar, and spices. It’s perfect on toast, burgers, grilled cheese, or paired with cheese boards.
🧅 Easy Onion Jam Recipe
🍳 Ingredients:

3 large onions (yellow or red), thinly sliced

2 tbsp olive oil or butter

1/4 cup brown sugar (or honey/maple syrup)

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)

1/2 tsp salt

Optional:

1 tsp fresh thyme or rosemary

Pinch of chili flakes for heat

Splash of wine or a dash of soy sauce for depth

🥣 Instructions:

Heat oil/butter in a wide pan over medium-low heat.

Add onions + salt, and stir occasionally for 15–20 minutes, until soft and golden.

Add sugar and stir well—cook another 5–10 minutes until caramelized.

Pour in vinegar (and wine/spices if using), stir, and simmer on low until thick and jammy—about 10–15 more minutes.

Let cool and transfer to a jar. Store in the fridge (lasts ~2 weeks).
