Recipe for dusted popcorn

Here's a simple and delicious dusted popcorn recipe—light, flavorful, and perfect for snacking. “Dusted” just means it's tossed with a dry seasoning mix rather than a wet coating like butter or caramel.

Dusted Popcorn Recipe (Savory)

Servings: 2–3
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup popcorn kernels

  • 2 tbsp neutral oil (like avocado, canola, or coconut) — for stovetop popping

  • 1–2 tsp olive oil spray or a light drizzle (to help season stick)

Seasoning Ideas (pick one or mix to taste):

Smoky Paprika Dust:

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • Salt to taste

  • Optional: pinch of cayenne or chili powder

Nutritional Yeast Dust (cheesy & vegan):

  • 2 tbsp nutritional yeast

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp turmeric (for color)

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

Ranch Dust:

  • 1 tsp dried dill

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp dried parsley

  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Pop the Corn:

  • Stovetop Method:

    1. Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add a couple of kernels; once they pop, add the rest.

    2. Cover, shake occasionally, and let pop until it slows to 1–2 seconds between pops.

    3. Remove from heat.

  • Air Popper:
Simply use an air popper for an oil-free base.

2. Lightly Oil for Stickiness:

  • Lightly mist popped popcorn with olive oil spray or drizzle a tiny bit of oil and toss to coat evenly. (Too much will make it soggy.)

3. Dust & Toss:

  • In a small bowl, mix your chosen seasonings.

  • Sprinkle over the popcorn in batches while tossing to coat evenly.

Serving Tip:

  • Serve immediately for best texture.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container (though it’s rarely needed!).
